You can find emergency dentists at eDental, but we really wish you didn’t have to. We know how much it hurts to have a dental emergency. Luckily, most dental emergencies can be prevented by practising sound oral hygiene.
Sound Oral Hygiene
There are some dental emergencies that can’t be avoided. If you have an accident or play a contact sport, occasionally a tooth will be broken. Those are pretty much unavoidable. But the majority of dental emergencies come from failure to employ basic oral hygiene and preventive dentistry.
The Basics of Oral Hygiene are Just That. They are Easy to Execute:
-
Brush Your Teeth Twice a Day.
-
Floss Once a Day.
-
Avoid Sugary Drinks and Food.
-
Avoid Drinks With Acids in Them.
Regular Visits to the Dentist
Basic hygiene is the best way you can avoid cavities that turn into dental emergencies. However, there is one more extremely important thing you have to do: visit your dentist at least once a year and preferably twice a year.
The trip to the dentist has two purposes. First, your teeth are thoroughly cleaned by the dental hygienist. No matter how great of a job you do with oral hygiene, the dental hygienist can do better. We can remove plaque that brushing and flossing can’t. We can find the spots that you missed.
The other purpose of the dental visit is to have a checkup. We can find cavities in the very beginning before they become large enough to cause pain or infection. If we find a cavity while it is small, we can get rid of it and fill your tooth before it becomes a larger problem. A cavity left untreated can eventually become an abscess. It can also cause you to need a root canal if left unchecked.
