Sedation Options For Your Unique Needs
We have available for you (if you require it), a variety of sedation options. From a mild sedative, through to ‘Sleep Dentistry’, there is a suitable treatment for everyone.
Let’s explore some of the more common dental sedation options below. We encourage you to discuss any apprehension you may have when you book your appointment.
Oral Sedation
Sometimes known as ‘conscious sedation’ this option involves the administration of an oral pill, that will be prescribed by your Dentist.
Typically, one to two pills are taken an hour before your dental treatment. It’s important that you always follow the Dentist’s instructions before taking any prescribed medications.
This option offers great relief for those who have a higher than moderate level of anxiety, and the benefits are many.
While you will be awake during your treatment, you may not remember much of the treatment.
Do note, you will need someone to drive you home after your appointment if you wish to take this option.
Sleep Dentistry
Sleep Dentistry is an option for those people who have a need for a powerful sedation option so that they can receive dental treatment.
The treatment is applied intravenously, by a qualified and experienced anaesthetist who will have you under their watchful eye during the entire treatment.
When Sleep Dentistry sedation is undertaken, the patient can still follow basic commands and breath on their own. However, they are in a sleep-like state during the entire treatment process.
This sedation option will need to be discussed prior to your appointment, and you’ll need to consult with your Dentist in advance.
While you won’t be completely ‘under’ during your treatment, you may feel drowsy for a little time after. That’s why we recommend that you bring a friend or family member along to the treatment so that they can drive you home after.
