We would like to provide the basics of dental implants for you to help allay any fears you may have about the process or the results. We have provided dental implants and crowns to many patients in the Perth area with great results. Here is what to expect.
Dental Implants and crowns: a Brief Description
Dental implants are implanted into your bone to function as an artificial tooth root. The implant is put into your jaw and a cap or crown is then put into the implant to function as a tooth. We can provide one implant or an entire set of “new” teeth.
The material used for the implant is tough, durable and biocompatible. It integrates into your body easily through a process known as “osseointegration.” This means the bone and the implant bond together during the healing process.
The gum grows over the implant during the healing and bonding process. Once it is fully bonded, the gum is moved away to reveal the implant and a small post is inserted into the implant. This post supports the new tooth.
Benefits of Dental Implants and crowns
Patients who are missing teeth are turning to dental implants in increasing numbers because of the benefits they provide. Implants are a permanent solution to missing teeth and don’t affect the surrounding teeth. They feel like natural teeth because they blend in perfectly with your natural teeth.
The Procedure
The process of a dental implant can take up to six months. The consultation is first, followed by the creation of a plan specifically for you. Then, the first stage is scheduled. During the first stage, the implant is implanted into the gums, where it bonds with the jawbone. It is covered over by the gum so the healing process can begin. When it heals, the post is attached and finally the crown or bridge.
