Cosmetic dental services, particularly dental implants and prosthetics, are projected to become a major trend in Perth and across Australia by 2020. This is according to a research firm called MarketsandMarkets. The report lists some of the companies which are projected to be major players in the market and makes projections based on the procedure and the material being used for the procedure.
Cosmetic Dental Services: the Main Takeaway
The most important statistic mentioned is that implants and prosthetics are projected to grow in market share by a compound rate of 7.8% per year between now and 2020. This is a rise of around 40%.
So, what is driving this rise in the market? The report cites rising purchasing power, rising demand and more acceptance among consumers for modern technology in the dental field. However, that doesn’t tell the full story.
Ageing Population, Ageing Teeth
The baby boomer generation is ageing. This is causing what one could call an “ageing boom.” One of the consequences of ageing is the loss of teeth due to dental caries and a rising likelihood of periodontal disease. The baby boomer generation is more concerned about their appearance than previous generations and many are more than willing to spend their disposable income on replacement teeth that look better and perform better than traditional dentures.
In addition, many who aren’t losing all of their teeth need some kind of prosthetic device or a single implant. Also, as consumers are becoming more aware of their options, many are choosing dental implants because modern implants are easier to clean.
The use of CAD/CAM technology to improve the quality of dental implants is also a major factor, as is the ease and accuracy at which implants can now be customised.
